My partner and I bid these cards today at rubber bridge:
AKJ9x
A
ATxx
QTx
Tx
Jxxx
x
AKJxxx
Uncontested the auction went:
1S-1NT*-3D-3S-4S-P
*=forcing
how should we bid to this excellent slam? What is 4C over 3D, and should South bid that? And what about 4C over the 3S preference? Is that a cuebid or a fragment?

Do you think it's an automatic 3D jump shift? What's wrong with 2D?
Over 2D, South can bid 3C and North is off to the races.
Over 2D, South can bid 2S and North continues on with 3C to show his pattern with extras.
I'll give it to the walkers and see what they think.
interesting...i agree with you, 2 diamonds certainly works well here and if partner passes (rare) it's possible and even likely that there is no game. without a doubt this range and shape of hand is one of the toughest to describe using standard methods. thanks for the insightful comment.
